Run a photo contest where members rank every entry
Photo contests drown in email: entries arrive as attachments, someone pastes them into a slideshow, and votes come back as reply-all messages. Put each entry straight into a Rankd as a photo option, titled by entry number and title rather than the photographer’s name. Share the link with the camera club, class or company, and everyone ranks every photo on their phone or computer. Reveal the winner, then the photographers.
- Entry 1: fog over the reservoir
- Entry 2: fire escape at dusk
- Entry 3: heron mid-strike
- Entry 4: grandma’s hands
- Entry 5: subway platform blur
- Entry 6: first snow on the bikes
Free. Add your own options (these are just examples), then send one link to your group.
Why ranking beats a regular poll here
- Titles instead of names keep the vote on the photo, not the photographer’s reputation.
- Ranking every entry rewards a strong image over one with a big fan club.
- Members who miss the meeting can still rank from home with the same link.
How it works
- Add the question and 3 to 30 options
- Send one private link to the group
- Everyone ranks privately, in about a minute
- You reveal the winner
Tips
- Set a theme and an entry deadline, then add all the photos at once.
- Six to eight photos is easy to rank; if more come in, split the month into themed rounds.
- Run it monthly with a new theme, and keep each month’s result card for the year-end show.
Questions
Can I add the photos myself?
Yes. When you create the Rankd, add a photo to each option from your phone or computer, or with a link.
Can people see how I ranked?
No. Each person’s order stays private. Everyone sees the group’s final order and where they personally landed, never anyone else’s individual ranking.
Is it free? Does everyone need the app?
Rankd is free and runs in the browser, so there is nothing to download. Friends open the link from any group chat (iMessage, WhatsApp, Slack, email) and rank in about a minute.
