A ranked-choice poll your group will actually answer
A normal poll asks everyone for one pick, so the winner is often just the biggest faction, and second choices are thrown away. A ranked-choice poll asks everyone to put all the options in order, then finds the option the whole group likes best overall. Rankd makes that as quick as a group chat poll.
- Italian
- Thai
- Steakhouse
- Tacos
- Sushi
Free. Edit the options, then send one link to your group.
Why ranking beats a regular poll here
- Everyone’s second and third choices count, so the result is the option most people can live with.
- Rankings stay private, so people answer honestly instead of following the loudest voice.
- You decide when to reveal, so nobody piles on while the votes come in.
How it works
- Add the question and 3 to 12 options
- Send one private link to the group
- Everyone ranks privately, in about a minute
- You reveal the winner
Tips
- Keep it to 3 to 7 options; more than that and people stop reading.
- Write the question the way you would say it in the group chat.
- Rank it yourself first so you count too.
Questions
How does Rankd pick the winner?
Every ranking gives each option a position. Rankd adds up the positions across everyone, and the option with the best (lowest) total wins. If two options tie, the organizer breaks the tie.
Is this the same as instant-runoff voting?
Not exactly. Instant-runoff eliminates options round by round. Rankd uses everyone’s full order at once (a points-style count), which is simpler to explain and rewards options that most people rank highly.
Can people see how I ranked?
No. Each person’s order stays private. Everyone sees the group’s final order and where they personally landed, never anyone else’s individual ranking.
Is it free? Does everyone need the app?
Rankd is free and runs in the browser, so there is nothing to download. Friends open the link from any group chat (iMessage, WhatsApp, Slack, email) and rank in about a minute.
