How Rankd works
Rankd helps a group make a decision everyone can live with. Instead of one vote each, everyone ranks the options, and Rankd finds the one the group likes most overall.
Decide something with your group
- Ask the question and add 3 to 12 options
- Send one private link to the group chat
- Everyone ranks privately, in about a minute
- You reveal the winner when everyone’s in
Or just play for fun
Public ranks are open debates: rank them, then see where you agree and split with everyone else, and challenge a friend to beat your take. Browse public ranks.
Questions
What is Rankd?
Rankd is a free ranked-choice poll for groups. Instead of picking one option, everyone puts all the options in order, and Rankd finds the option the group ranked highest overall.
How does Rankd pick the winner?
Each ranking places every option. Rankd adds up each option’s positions across everyone; the lowest total (the option ranked highest on average) wins. Every submitted ranking counts equally.
What happens if there is a tie?
Options with equal totals share a place. If the top spot is tied in a group rank, the organizer chooses the winner from the tied options.
Who can see my ranking?
Only you. The group sees the combined order and each person sees where they personally differed. Individual rankings are never shown to others.
Do I need an account?
You can open any rank and put the options in order without one. To submit a ranking in a group, or to create a rank, you sign in with Google, which keeps it to one ranking per person.
What are public ranks?
Public ranks are open debates anyone can play, like the best World Cup team or fall comfort foods. After you rank, you see how your order compares with everyone else’s. Crowd totals appear once enough people have ranked.
Is Rankd free?
Yes. Rankd is free and runs in any browser, so there is nothing to install.
Results are the preferences of the people who ranked, not an objective verdict or a representative survey.
