Pick a charity your team or friends will give to together
Choosing a cause as a group is personal, and people care a lot. In a meeting, whoever speaks first sets the direction, and anyone with a different cause in mind keeps quiet. Add the shortlist to a Rankd, send it to the team or friend group, and let everyone rank privately. The winner is the cause most people ranked high, so the donation feels shared rather than assigned.
- Local food bank
- Animal shelter
- Children’s hospital
- Park and river cleanup group
- Literacy program
- Disaster relief fund
Free. Edit the options, then send one link to your group.
Why ranking beats a regular poll here
- People can back a cause close to home without having to explain why out loud.
- The cause with broad support gets the group’s money, not the one with the best speech.
- The full order lets you split the donation or line up next year’s cause.
How it works
- Add the question and 3 to 30 options
- Send one private link to the group
- Everyone ranks privately, in about a minute
- You reveal the winner
Tips
- Swap the general causes for specific local charities once you have names.
- Ask whoever suggests a charity to post a one-line reason in the chat before people rank.
- Send it a week before Giving Tuesday so there is time to collect the money.
Questions
Can we split the donation between the top picks?
Yes. Rankd gives you the full group order, so you can give everything to the winner or divide it among the top two or three. Rankd doesn’t handle money, so collect it however your group usually does.
Can people see how I ranked?
No. Each person’s order stays private. Everyone sees the group’s final order and where they personally landed, never anyone else’s individual ranking.
Is it free? Does everyone need the app?
Rankd is free and runs in the browser, so there is nothing to download. Friends open the link from any group chat (iMessage, WhatsApp, Slack, email) and rank in about a minute.
