Analytics and advertising

Product analytics

Rankd measures how the site is used, such as which screens people open and where a ranking gets abandoned, so we can fix what is confusing. When enabled, this includes Google Analytics. In the United States and most countries, product analytics are on by default and you can turn them off at any time. In the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, they stay off unless you turn them on. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, analytics stay off.

When you first visit, Rankd remembers in a first-party cookie which site sent you (for example google.com, a group invite, a shared rank, or a campaign link) and the first page and rank you opened. The private part of an invite link is never kept. Only the site's name is kept, not the full address. If you create an account within 30 days, this is saved with your account so we can see which channels bring players. It is not shared with advertisers.

With product analytics on, Rankd records the steps of your visit on its own servers so we can see where the product works and where people get stuck: for example opening an invite, hitting the sign-in step, sharing a link, or revealing a result. These records hold rank identifiers, counts and fixed choices (like “typed a question” or “tapped the example”), never what you type, your search words, your email or your name. When you are signed in they are linked to your account so we can understand a whole journey; they are never sold or shared with advertisers.

If you answer “Did this settle it?” after a reveal, your answer is saved with that rank whether or not analytics is on, because you chose to send it.

Advertising measurement

Rankd uses Google Tag Manager to manage measurement tags. The container loads automatically and makes a request to Google, which receives technical connection information. Installing the container does not itself enable every advertising tag.

Advertising permission is off by default. You can enable it separately from product analytics in your browser privacy settings. Playing Rankd does not require it.

When configured and enabled, X advertising measurement can send technical information such as your IP address and browser information to X. X may use cookies or other identifiers to connect visits with ads. Rankd does not intentionally supply your email, username, or individual ranking to advertising tags.

Your advertising choice is saved in this browser for 90 days. You can turn it off at any time. Browser Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals set the advertising permission to denied. Disabling permission does not delete information already received by a provider.
